ЦУМ – крупнейший department store в Европе. На площади 70 тысяч квадратных метров расположились коллекции более двух тысяч брендов. Среди них – Dolce&Gabbana, Valentino, Celine, Ralph Lauren, Alexander McQueen, Brioni, Loro Piana, Chopard, Rolex, Graff, Garrard, Patek Philippe, парфюмерно - косметические и интерьерные марки. Своим клиентам ЦУМ предоставляет безупречный сервис и возможность совершать покупки по европейским ценам, не выезжая за пределы Москвы – с начала 2016 года цены в универмаге приравнены к миланским.

Была основана компания «Мюр и Мерилиз».
Шотландцы Эндрю Мюр и Арчибальд Мерилиз занимались в Санкт-Петербурге оптовой торговлей английским кружевом,тканями и другими товарами, поступающими из Британской империи.
1885
«Мюр и Мерилиз» открылся в Москве.
В магазине продавали женские шляпки и галантерею. Располагался он на том же месте, где сейчас находится ЦУМ –в трехэтажном доме на углу Петровки и Театральной площади.

«Мюр и Мерилиз» начинает торговлю по почте.
Четыре раза в год магазин выпускал каталог товаров, который вместе с образцами ткани бесплатно рассылал всем желающим. Расходы по доставке заказанных вещей (в пределах европейской части России) компания брала на себя.
Ноябрь 1900
Пожар полностью уничтожил здание магазина на Петровке.
Декабрь 1900
«Мюр и Мерилиз» открылся на новом месте.
Магазин занимал три верхних этажа в доме Хомякова.
1906
Начало строительства нового здания.
Архитектор Роман Клейн спроектировал семиэтажный униве рмаг в стиле неоготики. Это первое здание в Москве, где использовались железобетонные конструкции, такие же применялись при строительстве небоскребов в Нью-Йорке.
Август 1908
Открылся «Универсальный магазин Торгово-промышленного товарищества «Мюр и Мерилиз».
Здание было полностью построено за 28,5 месяцев. На это потребовалось 177670 человеко-дней и 1,5 млн рублей.
Декабрь 1918
Национализация «Мюр и Мерилиз».
Под именем Магазин №1 вошел в Москоммуну. По свидетельствам современников универмаг был в короткие сроки разграблен и закрыт.
